SCIENCE OPPORTUNITIES
Each year students have the opportunity to participate in field research at Circle J Ranch in Springville. Some of the trips are day trips that biology and chemistry students may choose to attend. The big event is the field research weekend. This event usually takes place at the end of January or beginning of February. .Eight schools from around Tulare County participate. We leave on Friday afternoon and head to SCICON where students are assigned to a research project with about 7 other students. Each team has a leader who is a real scientist in a particular field of study. Friday night is dedicated to team building games and dinner. Wel spend the night in the SCICON cabins. On Saturday morning after breakfast, we carpool down to Circle J Ranch and do our research projects within our groups all day. Saturday evening, we carpool back to SCICON for a full evening of a Star Party, night hiking, and a movie. Again we spend the night in the cabins. Sunday morning, we will meet in the dining hall to present our results and discuss our recommendations to the management of the pond and ranch. We return to Circle J for a community service project. After a sack lunch, we return to our schools. Keep in touch with me for details as this event is planned.
Below are some photos from past years at Circle J.
